Golf Instruction | Learning to Play Better Golf

Golf Instruction and Learning to Play Better Golf

Most players look for Golf Instruction in the form of swing analysis. And just to be clear, I have no issues with getting the swing looked at. Sound fundamentals are critical for anyone looking to play better golf and shoot lower scores. The problem I’ve noticed is that players focus on the swing and neglect the mind and the mental side of the game. This is like baking a cake with half the ingredients and hoping it turns out well. Not a chance!

If the players mind is not strong, the great swing will break down. The mind controls the body and therefore needs to be coached and fine tuned just like the swing. It only makes sense.

Mental Focus is Key

Mental Focus is Key

Just about every top level golfer has added a mental coach to their team. It’s that important. And just for the record, this is called a clue.

The question then becomes, “Can amateur players benefit as well from mental coaching?”

Play Better Golf | Golf in Denver

Golfers in Denver and all over the country are learning to play better golf simply by applying the mental tips provided at www.GreatGolferWithin.com.

It’s not enough to just work on your golf swing. The mind controls the body, therefore the mind controls the swing. What good does a great swing do you if it breaks down on the course when it really matters? It does no good at all. This is why golfers are seeking mental training along with swing training to improve their games. It’s a must for any golfer looking to play better this year.

It’s impossible to work on hitting wedges while away from the driving range but this isn’t the case for mental training. Your mind is always with you which means you can gain mental toughness any time of day and anywhere you happen to be.

Check out some other posts on this site and you will start to play better golf. A few simple tips can make a world of differernce in a short amount of time.

Good luck this season. I’m hoping you’ll focus on the mind as well as the swing this year and shoot the best scores you possibly can!!

Thanks for stopping in. Check back again soon.

Play Better Golf | 2010 Goals

Play Better Golf this year with Goals

I know you’ve heard it before but you can’t hit a target that doesn’t exist.

Goals are simply identified and written targets.

Goals are simply identified and written targets.

Golf is full of targets; fairways, greens and the cup. Golfers are accustomed to trying to hit targets, just not written targets. Written targets are called goals. And goals are a MUST for anyone looking to shoot better scores this year.

How can we play better golf through writing goals and where do we start?

Golf and Skiing – 2 of Life’s Joys

Golf and Skiing

I don’t recommend you do it often, but once in a while it’s fun to trade in the sticks for a pair of skis! Here’s a short clip from last weekend. Nothing fancy, just a few pre-season turns at Loveland Ski Area in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time, keep it in the short grass!

Play Better Golf Thorugh Tracking Stats

My dad and I went and played Ute Creek yesterday in Longmont, Colorado and I decided to show the stats I track every round of golf and why they’re important. I encourage everyone to keep track throughout the season. Feedback is critical and can be used in so many positive ways moving forward.

Scorecard

Above is yesterday’s scorecard. Why are the stats I track important and how do I use the numbers?

Improving Your Golf Game in the Off Season

Improving Your Game in the Off Season

Last week a snow storm rolled through Denver dropping 15 inches in 48 hours and reminded me just how close we are to the off season. Luckily the sun has returned and golf is in our future for a while longer. But the warm weather won’t last long and so the question becomes, Now What? How can I work to improve my golf game in the off season?

Alignment Sticks

Is it possible to make progress on our game with snow on the ground?

Improve My Golf Game | With Fly Fishing?

Improve my Golf Game with Fly Fighing

Thought I’d show a couple pics of our recent fly fishing trip. We left Denver that morning and it was 17 degrees. We pulled into Glenwood Springs and it was 60 degrees. Awesome!

Here was the 3rd fish of the day. This was the biggest I’d ever caught until later on that evening. This one was just under 3 pounds.

Check the hat!

Read on for another pic and some thoughts on how to improve my golf game on the river.

Play Better Golf | Handling Pressure

Play Better Golf

It will be great to watch the President’s Cup this weekend to see how the pros handle pressure. The only greater pressure than playing for money is playing for your team and country. There will be situations over the next few days that really put nerves to the test. This to me, is fun to watch.

Flying home from our Palm Desert Golf Trip.

What separates pros from amateurs when the pressure is on? And how can we learn to play better golf when the butterflies start flapping?

Shocking Stats About Putting

Shocking Stats About Putting

I was digging through some boxes last week and came across a book on putting by Dave Pelz that I’ve owned for over 10 years but never read. Boy was that a big mistake. I opened this thing up and was shocked by some of the stats he recorded on putting. Dave was a great player in college but chose a career with Nasa as a physicist. He worked there for about 20 and then decided to leave and pursue his passion, golf.

Greg Putting

He approached the skill of putting as a scientist would and what he found blew me away. It also changed my perspective and focus on the greens and I think it will have the same effect on you.
