Time

Isn’t time interesting? When we’re having fun it seems to move too fast and when we’re at the dentist it seems to come to a complete stop. I had all four wisdom teeth pulled recently so I can truly appreciate how slowly time can move.

Time always gets spent no matter what we are doing. We can invest time or we can waste time and either way, some gets spent. Kind of like money, we can invest or waste. But here is one key difference between time and money. If you waste $100 dollars, you can earn it back. If you waste an hour, there is no way to recover it.

Time truly is our most precious resource because of this reason. We’ve all been given a limited amount of time. Those of you who have lost loved ones know exactly just how precious time can be.

How do time and golf relate?

Golf takes time. It takes time to play and it takes time to practice. Here is the key question; is your time spent at the golf course invested or wasted?

Only invested time can move us toward our goals. Time wasted is a double negative because it’s not productive and we can’t ever get it back. How do we learn to invest time with golf instead of waste it? Become INTENTIONAL!

A half hour of intentional practice is far more productive than 3 hours of wasted practice. It’s not just the time you spend, it’s the quality of time you spend. All of us lead busy lives so the challenge is to learn to maximize the time available.

Quality time always starts with the right attitude. Prepare yourself while in the car driving to the course. Set up your game plan if you are going to practice. Pick out a goal for the round if you are going to play. Imagine some of the tee shots you will face. Begin to relax and calm yourself down. The body can only follow the mind’s lead.
