Play Better Golf | Understanding The Journey

Understanding The Journey

Playing golf is not the journey to a specific destination, it’s just a journey. The first day you picked up a club is when your journey began and it won’t end until you quit playing or die. That is the way it works. Nobody wakes up one day and “arrives” at a location called, “Great Golfer.” Even Tiger Woods, the #1 player in the world can shoot 75 on Sunday and not win the tournament. Congrats to Y.E. Yang, by the way. He just accomplished something very unique along his journey.

So what makes the “Golf Journey” so special?

I believe the golf journey is unique because of the game’s similarity to life. We experience highs and lows on and off the course. Seasons change in life and they change in golf. Some of you are in a season of great confidence with your game. Others have played for 20 years and feel like they are starting over. We learn on and off the golf course. We grow on and off the golf course. I have learned lessons on the course that applied to other areas of my life. And I have learned lessons in life that applied directly to my game.

So here we all are on this journey called life. My only point today is to encourage you to give it all you’ve got! Some people look back on life with satisfaction. Most look back on life with regret. The only difference is that some were willing to take chances and most never did. You’ve heard it a thousand times, but it truly is better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all.

What is the 1 thing you’ve always wanted to do but never have? If you are like me, something specific pops into your head when you hear that question. What is holding us back? What are we so afraid of? Most people will never move because of their fears. Some will move in spite of their fears. Which group will you belong to?

Thanks for your time today. I’ll leave you with a great quote from Jack Buck that fits our topic; “Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out.”

Make the most of your golf game and make the most of your life. Then you too can look back one day with satisfaction that you gave it your all!

See you next time.
