Play Better Golf – Step 1

PLAY BETTER GOLF

“If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right. ” – Henry Ford

Here is another way to word it. “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are absolutely right.”

Do you think you can play better golf? It all starts in your head, you know? I believe everyone who plays has a great golfer within them that simply needs a little coaxing to come out. Now “Great” can mean different things to different players. To some it means consistently breaking 100 and to others it means consistently breaking par. I’ll bet a large group determines “great” by whether or not they won or lost money that particular day! Let’s discover what “great” means to you and get you moving in that direction. Hopefully you already are.

Hello Golf Reading Blog World. My name is Mike Snyder and this site will be dedicated to helping people of all abilities play better golf than they ever thought possible. Now I certainly don’t have all the good ideas but I have picked up a few over the years that have drastically improved my game and I’d like to share them. My background isn’t really important but I’ll give you a brief overview so you understand where I’m coming from. High School was when I really started to focus on the game. I worked at a local course which meant FREE GOLF and I took full advantage. It was nice having the time and ability to hit endless golf balls and play for free. My handicap back in those days bounced between 1 and 2. I wasn’t tough mentally but I had enough repititions to make up for it.

Now fast forward to today. No longer working at a course, full time job and all the busy things in life that take up my time. But here’s the interesting part; my scoring average is better now than it was then. And I’ve been able to shoot more sub-par rounds since high school than I ever did in high school. How is this possible? The repetitions have decreased but mental toughness has increased. This is the key. And the good news…anyone can get stronger mentally!

Would You Like to Know How?

Step 1: Decide

Decide is a very powerful word. By definition it means, “to make a final choice.”

You will begin to release the great golfer within when you decide to make it happen. Tiger was no doubt born with an ability to play great golf but he still had a decision to make. He could have decided years ago to quit the game. He could have decided to give it 50% effort instead of 100%. You and I are no different. We can quit. Or we can decide to become intentional about playing our best golf ever. You can also decide that your game is good enough and you don’t care to improve. Whether you take action or don’t take action, you will be making a decision. What will you choose?

As for me and my game, I’m making the choice to see how low I can go. I don’t have 8 hours a day to practice like the pros do but so what. Let’s learn to make the most of the time and talent we do have. That’s what this is all about. Making the most of what we’ve been given.

I’m hoping you’ll join me on this journey to play our best golf ever. I promise to reveal every good mental tip I’ve learned over the years and there will be some good ones coming, I can assure you.

Please stay tuned often and feel free to comment below. The best way to handle a great idea is to share it!

Homework: put a little thought into your game and DECIDE where you would like it to go.

See you next time,

Mike
